About this home

A child-centred tiney home away from home based in Yatton. It is a family home with a secure grassy garden which looks out onto green fields where the cows and occasional deer graze.

We spend time outside every day whether it is in the garden or in the local area. We are lucky to have the Strawberry Line, three parks, a toddler group and library within walking distance to provide a variety of activities each day.

Currently operating Monday - Thursday.

About our tiney childminder

Hello, my name is Marie and I am a mother of a little boy who is 16 months and a qualified teacher of Secondary School History, I have worked with children for over ten years and I enjoy sharing my curiosity of learning with them and engaging them in the past and the world around us.

I love being creative whether this is through using our piano with nursery rhymes or baking. I’m not sure you can beat a home grown courgette in a vegan chocolate cake!

Unique highlights

Passion for Literacy

When I was a secondary school teacher I found that many children struggled with reading due to their lack of opportunities in their early years. I am confident in a range of techniques and strategies to support children from a young age to enjoy reading and gain the skills as they grow. We have a range of books and also have access to the local library so we can borrow books to meet a child’s interest or to support our understanding of a season or event etc.

Teaching Experience

I am a qualified secondary school teacher and I loved planning and creating lessons to engage students learning and helping them to make progress. I enjoy getting creative and using everyday items and activities to develop skills such as teamwork, imagination and problem solving in my tiney home.

Outdoor Learning

We have a large enclosed back garden which looks out onto green farming fields. Throughout the year we can see cows, sheep and also the occasional deer! The garden provides a variety of wildlife from a range of birds to frogs. It is lovely to see the countryside change throughout the seasons. The garden provides an opportunity to play with sand and water alongside a variety of toys. We also grow some vegetables such as courgettes and tomatoes which provides an opportunity for children to sow seeds and watch the plants grow and then harvest! We also can see the trains going past and the planes flying over which provides a great discussion opportunity about transport and using our imagination on who may be travelling and where!

In this neighbourhood

I am in the quiet village of Yatton which has a number of parks and the Strawberry Line in walking distance. There are a lot of opportunities to be outside and explore the different landscapes of the coast, wetlands and farmland which allows us to see lots of wildlife! Within the village we also have a library which has sessions for under 5s and a toddler group at the local church which provides opportunities to explore different settings.
