About this home

Hello! My name is Kate and I live with my partner and son in Larkhill. I love working with young children and am passionate about learning, the outdoors and well-being. I have a background in teaching and the environmental sector. My home nursery backs onto a large playing field and little wooded area - perfect for exploring. I care for up to three under 5s, so your little one will have plenty of my focused attention but also crucial opportunities to interact with other young children.

About our tiney childminder

Prior to opening my home nursery, I worked as a primary school teacher in Key Stage 1. During my time as a teacher, I was also the Science and Geography Subject Leader; ran the school Eco Committee; and was a designed Mental Health First Aider.

My earlier experience working with children includes regular babysitting for over 10 years; working as a Children’s Holiday Camp and Parties Assistant for 4+ years. I am also a Mum to my young son and two amazing step-sons who we see regularly.

Unique highlights

A safe, welcoming home

I live in a 3 bedroom home on the outskirts of the Larkhill estate. The main room downstairs is laid out as a cosy playroom / living space with plenty of play and learning resources, a snug reading corner, and space for arts and crafts and to sit together for meals. We have lots of different toys, which we routinely clean and rotate. Upstairs, there is a designated, cosy nap room, with safe sleep spaces for the children, black out blinds, a baby monitor and night light. We have a small, secure private garden where children enjoy mark making, playing in the themed sensory tuff tray, digging on the toy tractor and riding trikes. Children have safe access to a downstairs bathroom and also supervised access to the kitchen where we do baking. The whole home has been risk assessed and fitted with stair gates and cupboard locks to make it safe for young children.

Well-being first

I love helping children to flourish by focusing on their emotional well-being first and learning through play and exploration. Outdoor learning plays a huge part of our day. I am really passionate about mental health and a firm believer in the many benefits that nature brings to children’s learning, development and wellbeing. I make sure children have access to stimulating, varied resources and plentiful opportunities for open ended play. I truly believe children learn best by ‘doing’ and we enjoy doing variety of fun, practical activities.

Child-led learning

After our morning outdoor activities, children enjoy a combination of structured learning activities and free, open-ended play during the afternoon. We love include getting creative with art and junk modelling, painting, cooking, gardening, science experiments, building blocks and dens, playdough, singing and nursery rhymes, circle time, lots of stories and more fresh air! Activities are planned around the children’s unique interests and focused areas of development. We also like to theme activities around well-loved stories (such as ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’, ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ and the ‘That’s not my…’ series) as well as annual celebrations. In terms of your child’s wider development, I will liaise closely with you to support them to become increasingly independent in all areas such as potty training, using a knife and fork, pouring their own drinks, and practising good hygiene (eg hand washing).

In this neighbourhood

My home is surrounded by countryside, woodland and green areas which provide fantastic opportunities for adventures and exploring. A short walk away is a local community hall which runs several baby and toddler groups and a wonderful park where the children get the opportunity to play and socialise with others. Up the road, is a softplay with an incredible sensory room which we sometimes visit. There are also a few community farms within the local area which we sometimes arrange trips to and Stone Henge which is also within walking distance.
